Abstract

The survival of national governments and every kind of independent political unit in the contemporarythreatening world depends on having national power and improving the bases of national identity.National identity will preserve the countries against inner and outer treats and causes national unity and finally leads to national power. Nations provide their national goals and supply own security and survival based on their abilities.
Upgrading the national power is the most important inquiryof political leaders in all countries. At the same time, it seems that nowadays Iranian society is faced with some challenges to provide maximum national power. National identity crisis is one of the factors that challenge national power. National power, which means unity and solidarity between composing components of a social and political system, is one of the main component of the national power. Inthis situation, increase inthe coefficient of national unity and solidarity,causes to decrease in internal and external threats and provides an appropriate context for the country development.
Methodology
This article, extracted from a thesis,uses an analytic- descriptive method and tries to explain the relationship between the national identity variable, as a dependent variable, and the national power, as an independent variable.
Discussion
Besides, it is tried to present some factors which cause crisis in national identity by referring to some symbols of national identity crisis in Iran.
Conclusion
Here, the functional analysis is dominant approach and the data gathering procedure is based on library findings. This research results show that national identity as the base of national interests is faced with some challenges, internally.Also, these challenges can turn to a crisis if they are neglected. And finally, this can decrease the coefficient of national power and can increases the country vulnerability versus external threats.
